The Dermatopathology Unit provides physicians from the fields of dermatology, plastic and general surgery, family practice expert service in the processing and interpretation of skin biopsy specimens. Consultation is offered in the diagnosis of inflammatory skin diseases, and benign and malignant dermatological conditions. We utilize state of the art technology including tissue processing for routine H&E stains for light microscopy, immunohistochemical stains (utilizing a wide range of antigen stains), and direct immunofluorescence microscopy for skin samples.
Dermatopathology Services are provided by a powerful team of four US-trained dermatopathologists, and who are fellows of the Philippine Dermatological Society, and are physicians board-certified in Dermatology by the Philippine Board of Dermatology: Dr Gwendolyn Wong (unit head, trained at Boston University), Dr Patricia Astorga-Chavez (trained at the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology in New York City), Dr Jasmin Jamora (trained at Indian University for Dermatopathology and at New York University for Immunofluorescence Techniques), and Dr Vivian Grace Tan (trained at Boston University for both Dermatopathology and Skin Oncology), specialize in clinico-pathological correlation to provide optimal interpretation of each patient's biopsy. Our Dermatopathologists encourage referring physicians to contact them through the St. Luke’s Dermatology Center with questions regarding their cases.
